UNT’s Best Homecoming Destinations
Attending the homecoming celebration this weekend at UNT? Take time off from the hustle and bustle to enjoy some of the new restaurants and events in Denton in your offtime.
Big Mike’s Coffee Shop: Opened for just about a year, Big Mike’s offers the usual coffee shop fare, along with free Wi-Fi, an art gallery that showcases local artists, and doors that are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With its After-Hours Happy Hour and prime location on W Hickory Street, Big Mike’s makes for the perfect last-stop after a night on Fry Street.
El Fenix: For those out-of-state visitors looking for a taste you can only get in Texas, Denton is now home to the newest locations of the El Fenix chain. El Fenix offers traditional Tex-Mex favorites like enchiladas, burritos, tacos, and limitless tortilla chips and salsa.
The Cellar 22 is a new wine and cigar bar near The Square in Denton. It offers an array of wine, cigars, and food to pair with wines. They also offer gift baskets in either pre-made or custom designs, perfect for homecoming.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood: If you are looking for something to do before the Mean Green takes on Florida International, join the Denton Dickens Fellowship and the Denton Public Library for all things Dickens at the Emily Folwer Central Library. The event will feature Victorian refreshments, costumes and plenty of Dickens discussion.
Halloween Harvest: Need something to do the night before the big game? Stop by the Denia Recreation Center for the City of Denton’s annual Halloween Harvest and enjoy a carnival complete with games, a bounce house, rock climbing, concessions, and a costume contest.
Annual Faculty and Staff Exhibition: Sunday, October 23 marks the last day that artworks of the Faculty and Staff of the College of Visual Arts and Design will be showcased at the UNT Art Gallery. The CVAD faculty and staff teach and guide the countless artists that graduate from UNT and go on to share their work, not only with the Denton community, but with the world. This is your last chance to check their work, and their contribution to the art community.
The Annual Faculty and Staff Exhibition showcases artworks in all media by the accomplished artists working in the College of Visual Arts and Design, one of the most comprehensive university art programs in the nation. These artists impact communities around the world by guiding students to become smart, well-rounded professionals who positively impact the areas in which they live and work, including our own. The arts thrive in North Texas, due in no small part to the talented CVAD faculty and staff.
