UNT Family Weekend
The cool weather is quickly approaching, Halloween is right around the corner, and college football has begun. Friday, October 8, 2010 marked the beginning of UNT’s 13th annual Family Weekend. With last nights “Scrappy’s Extravaganza” dinner, fair and carnival, UNT was happy to welcome its students and their families for a weekend full of events.
Each year, UNT hosts a Family Weekend where all students are encouraged to invite their families and enjoy a series of special events and activities, and get a chance to catch the UNT football team in action. Today, Saturday, October 9, the UNT Mean Green football team will once again take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The tailgating atmosphere today is a true account that the Family Weekend is once again thriving in full force!
“One of my favorite things about Family Weekend is the Chili Cook-off,” UNT student Meghan Swift said. “I also like that my family can feel involved, even my little sisters.”
“I like that we can tailgate and bring out the whole family,” mother of Swift, Andrea Talkington, said. “We have a large family and don’t get to do much stuff like this. It’s nice.”
This year’s events include the 13th annual Chili Cook-off, a 5K Fun Run/1 Mile Walk, and plenty of younger sibling activities. A full list of Family Weekend activities can be found at the UNT Family Weekend website.
Weekend registration included the Friday evening dinner, this morning’s President’s Breakfast, Mean Green Extravaganza activities and food, Family Weekend T-shirts, and entrance to other Family Weekend events without special charges. Football tickets for the UNT vs. Arkansas State game were also complimentary for all participants.
Sadly, tomorrow’s Family Weekend Farewell breakfast and 2010 Family of the Year Presentation will mark the end of fun packed events, but make sure you join us again next year! There are always great memories to be had when family and friends get together.
